Wade is, so far, is the second oldest drain manufacturer we can document. Their company history information page shows they started in 1865 in Tyler TX [W.L. Blake established their first warehouse in 1863]. They are currently owned by McWane out of Birmingham AL. Although they were once owned by Josam, until the SEC forced Josam to divest themselves of Wade in the 1960’s, it is unclear when Josam first bought Wade. The oldest catalog we have found is the W-44. We have yet to be able to date it, even thru Wade. But it appears to be late 1940’ early 50’s. Until just recently, Wade made their drain bowls out of ductile iron as opposed to cast iron. Making them very durable and long lasting. Which is why there is a fair amount of their old products out there. Current drains are cast iron, like everyone else. They are primarily found in the west and southwest. But can be found throughout the country. Their old products used an “L” Bolt or Eye Bolt system for the clamping rings on their roof drains to avoid penetrating the roofing membrane when clamping [similar to the Josam process]. Their new drains use conventional bolting systems. They offer the smallest bowl roof drain with a 6” no hub outlet, it has a 9-3/4” Diameter bowl. They do have several obsolete items, some with no replacement or conversion parts available.
